2012 SUMMIT SHAKEDOWN

Come help us test the Summit before the Jamboree! This is an exciting opportunity for youth and adults to be the first to camp at the Summit Bechtel Reserve! Your attendance will help to play an important role in the final planning process for the 2013 National Scout Jamboree.

The Mountaineer Area Council has been approved for one contingent (36 boys up to 18yrs of age, 4 adults) and one crew (8 co-ed youth up to 21yrs of age, and 2 adults.) Join us in this prestigious moment in Scouting history. Only 50 contingents from across the country are selected! The purpose of the 2012 Summit Shakedown is to test various components of the new Jamboree model on-site with a manageable but meaningful number of staff and participants from across the country! Possible program activities include climbing, rappelling, zip line, canopy tours, BMX, skateboarding, mountain biking, shooting sports, archery, and more! The Summit Shakedown is a perfect opportunity to enjoy these activities! It’s also a great chance for those who might not otherwise make it to the 2013 Jamboree to visit the site and all it has to offer!

The format will be a “long weekend,” starting on Friday, July 13, 2012 and ending on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. The fee will be $300.

To be considered as “current” on your payments you must pay in full or submit $100 to reserve your space.

We still have spaces available for both the contingent and crew. See specifications for each listed above. The same age/rank requirements for the Jamboree will apply to the Shakedown and may be found online at www.bsajamboree.org.

To be considered, you must have submitted your application and made your deposit or full payment by the close of business (5pm) on Friday, March 30, 2012!

After that time, we will make any remaining slots available to youth/adults from other councils who were not selected to participate.

Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity! For additional questions, please contact the scout office at 304-366-3940 or by replying to this email!

Applications can be found attached to this email as well as on our website www.macbsa.org.

As always, please feel free to forward this and any other e-news update to each person on your unit committee and/or any other person who may be interested!
