Since 1928, the Mountaineer Area Council has positively impacted tens of thousands of young men and women in North Central West Virginia with values based on our character development program.

Currently, the cost of delivering Scouting to the young people in the Mountaineer Area Council is $650 per youth. Scouting is a very cost effective youth development program. You are encouraged to help out and give at the Mountaineer Level of $150.

Results That Count

The Louis Harris & Associates survey on Scouting proved how Scouting’s programs have a profound impact on young people at a time in life when youth are most susceptible to many negative influences. The survey revealed:

Men who were Scouts were more likely than those who have never been Scouts to:

  • Graduate High School
  • Graduate from College
  • Earn higher annual household incomes
  • Have lifelong friendships
  • Value family relationships highly
  • Believe helping others should come before one’s self interest
